Me: "I'm beautiful."

Simone: "No you're not."

Me: "Shayna's beautiful."

Simone: "No she's not."

Me: Fritzi [the cat] is beautiful."

Simone: "No."

Me: "Daddy's beautiful."

Simone: "No. He's not."

Me: "The bed is beautiful."

Simone: "No it's not."

Me: "Art is beautiful."

Simone: "No."

Me: "OK, I give up. What is beautiful?"

Simone: "I don't know. Maybe a dress."

I want to say "where do they pick this stuff up?" But I guess it's practically everywhere. Ugh.

I take some comfort in the "stream vs. bubble" metaphor that I picked up a few WisCons ago. My job isn't to construct and maintain a bubble around my kids, my job is to be a steady stream. And so in this case I just continued to name things I found beautiful after the "dress" comment.

I don't think so in this case. I was definitely pushing hers! I think I caught her off-guard with the question and got a first-blurt answer.
