pantryslutToday's kid adventure involved discovering that Homeroom is closed on Mondays. Oops.
So we hastily reconvened and walked to Mama's Royal Cafe, which I have been meaning to get to for ages but never managed. Fortunately for us, they are open on Mondays, because the area is kind of dead for restaurant choices otherwise. Our second back-up was lunch buffet at Ohgane, the Korean BBQ place. *I* would have liked it. Btw, they've taken the peeling and faded Mongol Hordes artwork down from the side of the Ohgane building. I kind of miss it. So do the ladies: "No animals!"
They get bonus points for bringing free fruit for the kids to nibble while we waited for our order, and sending us out the door with free day-old biscuits too. And for splitting the short stack of pancakes onto two plates for the kids without me having to ask.
I also enjoyed the funky pre-hipster decor and general vibe. As well as the food, which is casual in that "I'm cooking like I do at home only on a larger scale" way. Everything's roughly chopped and not very polished and that's a feature not a bug.
I hear this place is a bear on weekends and I can kind of see why. But on a weekday afternoon, it's just neighborly-feeling.
Afterwards we went and blew bubbles in Mosswood Park, which is full of daisies and dandelions. We admired some tall redwoods (and their pinecones) as well. Someday I will have to set aside some time for April to watch the basketball players, too.
