In which I am recertified as a fag hag
Feb. 21st, 2007 12:27 pm"It's all about power and the male transgressive gaze being turned upon men when it's usually directed to women. I wish Medved had the balls to say that, to acknowledge male fear of being de-manned by becoming an object of even theoretical desire."
Lev Raphael is my hero!
No, really! He's been my hero since I was an undergraduate at MSU. I never took a class from him (though I did take one from his partner), but I did get to meet and work with him -- on that big survey on queer issues on campus, as it happens. You can still find my name attached to it if you delve deep enough in Google.
And in addition to being bent, witty, smart, and a good writer, and also friendly and generous in that faculty way, he's handsome and bearded and Jewish! I don't know anybody else in my life rhat remotely resembles that phrase. ;)
Also, he knows how to use the word "gormless" (not in the link above, but elsewhere). That makes me feel all sixteen again...
