Apr. 11th, 2007 09:10 amOK, this is the last thing I am going to say about Gaytanamo, the porno feature I mentioned back a few posts ago. It seems I wasn't the only one a little put off by the title and concept, and there's been a bit of a controversy in a teapot about it on the Webz over the past week or so (chronicled in the link, above). Now they're calling it a "dark comedy," btw. And Fleshbot makes the not-unreasonable point that prison rape and torture fantasies are not exactly uncommon in gay porn (or in the heads of people like me, cough). Still, I see the producers trying to play both sides of the street. It's a comedy. It's satire. But -- it's just a movie, just a porno, it doesn't mean anything. I guess I differ from some of the other critics of the movie, in that I don't think it's disgusting, horrible, inappropriate, beyond the pale...I just think it's in really, really, really bad taste. And part of that bad taste is the "aw shucks it's just a movie, until I'm called on it and then it's a satire and that gives it intrinsic value even if the satire is lame and forced and contrived and dull" attitude that the filmmakers take. 'K? Are we all clear on that now? Good.
