(this first section as a comment somewhere else over the weekend, and edited since)

I am thankful for my lads, for my apartment, for my cats, for my job, for my friends, and my really very cool family. For turkey leftovers in the fridge and shelves full of cookbooks. For the weather. For paper plates and municipal composting to help manage a big Thanksgiving. For hickies and tea. For museum trips and ice cream. For anatomy. For new traditions. For German candy and for antique stores with loose type.

Most important, for people who love and appreciate me for who I am, warts and all. Sometimes they even love my warts. Sometimes I do too.

Random note: Five Wounds Catholic School has the best name ever.

Food notes: I made a lot of cream sauce this weekend, post-turkey. (Bechamel, if you prefer.) Creamed spinach on toast turns out to be a wonderful easy supper.

The turkey tastes even better cold. I brined it, and it was a schmancy heritage breed, and overall I am happy, although next year I may just salt it for simplicity's sake.

I found the juniper berries two days later.

I think that's all for now. I had a wonderful four-day weekend filled with friends and food and even a little shopping, and it's all dancing in my head and unwilling to settle down into words to share with you all right now. Here's the bare-bones outline, and then I'm off:

-- Thanksgiving at my house with an assortment of friendly folk. No table, paper plates and napkins, and just good company.

-- Went dancing at Meat that night.

-- Down to San Jose on Friday to see the Body Worlds 2 exhibit. Wandered through SJ's downtown Xmas street fair.

-- Tea on Saturday, followed by wandering up and down Piedmont Ave., just for fun.

-- Goodbye party on Sunday.
