As promised :)

* Baby's necks can get remarkably filthy in a short period of time.

I gave the girls their first bath by my hand yesterday. (G. has done the washing duties twice now.) I am totally freaked out by the process and absolutely paranoid that I am going to lose my grip on them and drown them, even though I know rationally that they'll just sputter and cry if they slip out of my hands for a moment. This is especially noteworthy b/c I'm a relatively mellow parent otherwise. But they're clean! And they definitely enjoy the warm water experience.

* I can tell already that having a sling is going to save my life.

Actually, it's a pouch from Kangaroo Korner, and actually we have two. The lads were the first to really use them; I am the late adopter. Guess who's sleeping against my chest right now -- and yet I have two hands free to type? Also, it allows me and a baby to pace around the apartment together, which is great b/c I am a big pacer.

* Different personalities? You betcha.

Simone is, really, a remarkably mellow baby, generally serene and easygoing. April is a pretty unfussy baby as the averages go, but she goes from 0 to 60, from sleepy to full-throat wailing, with great speed. She is our little drama queen to be, we like to joke. Her worried Eisenhower expressions do not help mitigate this overall impression.

April has also been worrying us a little bit with her tendency to spit up large portions of her meals. But she's also a big eater, and she's gaining weight like gangbusters, and once we stopped giving her powdered formula, her stomach seemed to calm a little too.

* Hormones? What hormones?

I was supposed to be all emotional and weepy while I was pregnant, but apparently I am a late bloomer. Now, sentimental songs and such make me cry. I am also very stupidly in love with my babies, with my family, and often with the world at large.

* I am recovering from major abdominal surgery.

I got a call from the state disability office today which featured the statement, "but you just had a C-section!" by way of explaining why I wasn't yet sent a form to enroll in the Paid Family Leave program. Oh, right. That would also explain the vague cramping when I forget to take my pills, and why the walk to the post office and back was so draining. I guess I'm not supposed to be ready to go back to work yet, either. Who knew?

* Despite that, I am in robust health.

Got two vaccinations this week. Also, we're messing with reducing my blood pressure meds.

* If I had the $, I would totally hire a night nanny.
