Yes, it's true, I'm still about a chapter out of finishing Eddie Huang's memoir. So sue me. I was sidetracked by sampling a couple bits from The Fiction Editor, The Novel, and the Novelist by Thomas McCormack, in preparation for my upcoming panel at FOGCon on Friday about "The Craft of Editing." I also dipped into An Everlasting Meal by Tamar Adler, which is a re-read.

There was also a passel of new cookbooks that arrived on my doorstep this week, so I have been plowing through them with my usual enthusiasm. So far my favorite is Jeanne Lemlin's Simply Satisfying, a reworking of her very first cookbook Vegetarian Pleasures that I owned and loved for many years but eventually gave away in part because its menu format just wasn't working for me any more. Well guess what? She dropped the menu format (with a neat note about whey she used it in the first place, back in the day). So, an old friend in a new dress that I am very happy to become reacquainted with.

Next I will probably read The Liminal People by Ayize Jama-Everett because I am dying to.
