state of the union -- food and voting
Feb. 5th, 2008 09:14 amI meant to make cheese fondue on Sunday for the Superbowl, but I didn't. So I made it last night instead. It was good, and melted instantly and smoothly. It tasted too boozy (wine-y) for G.'s taste, though. I wonder how it would do with about a half-cup less wine. Or, conversely, more cheese.
I skipped the kirsch, used brandy instead. That was fine.
I also grated my thumb on the very sharp grater. Ow, ow, ow. And ow. Did I mention ow? It stings.
Yes, I am voting tonight, after work. I don't talk about politics much here, but that is for a number of reasons. Electoral politics in particular. And I can't think that my personal endorsement is going to sway anyone, so there's that. I certainly don't keep my views a secret, though, I don't think, although if anyone is curious about any aspect of them (or, heck, anything else) they are always welcome to ask.
I considered registering as a permanent absentee voter this year, but I have to admit there is something gratifying about walking down -- as a household -- to the fire station, seeing my neighbors, taking the time to stand in the booth. This morning, thanks to the radio, I was reminded of how my parents used to take me into the booth with them. I like the community feeling and the continuity. This is an important part of the process for me, apparently.

Date: 2008-02-06 08:41 pm (UTC)I'm also a permanent absentee, and I usually walk my ballot in because I was lame and didn't get it into the mail in time. OTOH, it is kinda nice to walk the block to the middle school and stand in their auditorium while I'm dropping my envelope in the slot. OTOOH, I like your reasoning and maybe I'll do it on purpose after this.
