Several people have asked me recently if I'm writing about my pregnancy. The answer is yes, but you've seen more or less all there is to see here on LJ.

I admit I was a little perplexed at the frequency of this question, until Steven explained it to me: "You're a writer, and a keen observer, and this is a big life event. So people are interested in whether or not you're writing down your keen observations about this big life event; they want to read them."

This seems obvious, I know, but trust me, it wasn't. I was stuck on "what is there to say? I'm hungry, and tired, and cuddly, and my belly's getting hard and my pants are getting tight and I'm just about falling out of my bra at this point, I'm having weird dreams, I have to pee in the middle of the night every night, and did I mention the skin tags? I did. OK."

(Or, in my crankier moments: "Are they expecting me to write sappy little letters to my embryos? Not that kind of person, no.")

Tangentially, I am also surprised at how many people have asked if I am celebrating Mother's Day this year. I think I will wait until they are actually born, if that's OK.

I had a cute conversation with my mother this weekend, when she asked how I felt about matching things, then confessed that she had bought twice as much yarn for the baby blanket she's knitting as she had intended. I told her that under those circumstances, matching blankets was fine.

I think that if you want to wait until the babies are born to celebrate Mother's Day, I don't give a flying fuck if anyone else thinks that's okay. For what it's worth, the question never crossed my mind.

Mom said she wasn't surprised that people were asking, but only because she's been asked so many times when she was carrying me.

I still find it perplexing. Mom was with me on that one, too :)

You are missing the Big American Point, which is that you celebrate a holiday if you have even the slenderest justification for it. You are a mother-to-be, hence a mom, therefore you should be demanding gifts and accolades next Sunday.

Wait, I have to wait all the way until Sunday to demand gifts and accolades? :)

I'm sorry, I should have said "Mother's-day-branded gifts and accolades."

I think I might take breakfast in bed. That sounds nice right now.

Oh I have some skin tags myself, but I didn't know they could be associated with pregnancy.

I hope yours are not in a part of the body where they get irritated and itchy.

Apparently, the pregnant body can be prone to overproducing skin cells (and hair, and nails, and so on), thus skin tags. And I was prone to them pre-pregnancy, so I get the extra bonus, apparently.

Right now they're all pretty tiny and mostly just across my chest and shoulders, not too bad.
