Holy shit. (sports interlude)
Feb. 9th, 2004 02:03 pmI am congenitally unable to follow regular-season college basketball -- too many games, too erratic a viewing schedule when the team you follow is thousands of miles away. I am riveted to my TV screen in March, but what precedes it is hit-and-miss.
I did catch a few pre-season Michigan State games when I was back home visiting. It was really dispiriting, actually. They'd play well for three quarters, and then blow it. There was no team cohesion; there was no *spunk*. These kids didn't believe they were as good as they could be, and they just weren't gelling as a unit. "It's going to be a long slog to a short March," I remarked to G. at the time.
MSU is now on top of their conference. They had a losing record in the pre-season, but now they're 7-2 in the Big Ten. What happened while I wasn't looking, huh?
This hurts my brain. In a good way, though.
