On a daily basis as a prophylactic, I'm taking a low dose of nortriptylene (older style anti-depressant) and acetazolamide (diuretic) which for some reason allegedly can work against migraine-related symptoms. It's hard to tell if either is working since my attacks are so intermittent.

However when I have an acute attack, or even stronger residual symptoms, I take a valium, which stabilizes the inner ear. Works reasonably well. I have ondansetron against nausea, and I was using Maxalt as well, but the last few times through the wash I've just taken the valium and it has seemed to do the trick against the worst of it. Can be hard to tell though - sometimes I don't catch the attack until it's really started in earnest, and then even the Maxalt doesn't seem to do much to cut the 8-10 hour ride down. But other times it's hard to say whether the meds improved things, or whether it would have just been a mild attack anyway.

In any case, I keep valium close to hand, for placebo if nothing else.
