pantryslutI know where the idea that having an affair is of a kind with sexual assault comes from. And where the idea that 'power is sexy' -- when you're a powerful white man -- comes from, too.
It comes from the utter inability to see women as possessing any autonomous sexual desire whatsoever. If all women are objects of *your* desire, the line between assault and a little on the side can indeed get very blurry. And if women in your worldview have no sexual desire per se, but desire sex only as a means to an end, then the end would no doubt be power, yes?

Date: 2011-05-28 10:33 pm (UTC)I hate to think about what that poor woman will be dragged through by the defense lawyers, but I'm glad that prosecutors and juries don't buy that crap as readily. (It's also interesting that there has been little mention of the race angle. Makes it look rather colonial, doesn't it?)
