I am getting a bit of an illicit thrill reading children's book reviews lately. My favorites are the ones that are mixed. Generally speaking, my very favorite children's books tend to be the ones whose "official" reviews, the ones written by librarians for trade publications, are diffident. Especially when they're unsure of or question the usefulness of the moral or message. Recent examples include Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes and Beautiful Blackbird, if you're curious.
