I am on the lookout for non-white mermaid, fairy, pirate, and superhero dolls that are suitable for young children to play with. There's, like, one beige Groovy Girl mermaid, and that's all I've found so far.

Hmm, does this count as "fairy"?

So cute! But no, fairies apparently = wings in my children's heads.

We have some of the Barbie fairies and mermaids and for the most part they haven't had different names, just been on a rack of "fairies" and we sorted through looking for different outfit and skin colors. Best luck with finding was not at the toy stores but in the toy sections of places like Fred Meyer and Walgreens (where we just scored a Mulan, though sadly not in her soldier outfit. But at least she's not just a regular Barbie with different color skin, which the fairies mostly are, but actually has a different head mold.)

Also, and more appropriate for your kids age: Pretty Puff Dolls, though you'd have to convince them that Paris is wearing a superhero suit.

Paris would need a cape :) Or wings, and she could be a fairy. But so cute!

Thanks!

The third one looks just like Daddy, only fewer and bigger earrings.

If you were made into an action figure, they'd assign you muscles like that too. It's like the Barbie waist.

Tinkerbell has black, asian, and hispanic friends--Toys R Us and Target have the 9" fairy dolls, which I believe are labeled ages 3 and up. Here's the disney fairies site, if you can stand it: http://disney.go.com/fairies/#/characters

Disney and Barbie, leading the diversity charge. Um, yay?

Thanks for the tip. One of my sisters will be very pleased to know that she can gift her nieces some Disney items after all...
