Apr. 24th, 2012 11:31 pmSo I finally had my mysterious ladyparts appointment, at a very swank clinic in Lafayette. Someday I will write up something about the aesthetics of a certain class of ladyparts clinics, the amount of money poured into them to make them feel homey and cozy and nonthreatening. The big prints of flowers on the walls. The curved desks. The herbal tea. They are trying so, so hard to get you to relax. The epitome of this aesthetic is the "breast center" at Alta Bates in Oakland, but believe me, the Women's Health Center in Lafayette (also an Alta Bates affiliate) is right up there too.
You may have guessed already that this particular aesthetic makes me really anxious. And I like herbal tea!
Lafayette itself is also somewhat anxiety-inducing, in that rich white suburb kind of way. I accidentally wore all black to my appointment and felt very conspicuous out there on the street. Also I was on foot, but I could more or less pretend I was walking to or from my car until the very moment I veered into the BART station. Which had no signage leading to it, btw.
The visit itself was not particularly anxiety-inducing, at least. Which is a good thing, because I have to go back once a week for a slightly more than a month. I am having Mysterious Ladyparts Physical Therapy. Complete with homework. Or, How I Spent My Summer Vacation.
