Neighborhood Adventures
Apr. 26th, 2012 10:00 pmToday I had a very lovely lunch with the even lovelier
cindymonkey. After lunch she gave me a ride home, and on the way she showed me a secret little park tucked under the highway near my house.
As it turns out, not only is there a secret little park, there is also an unnamed pocket playground just around the corner from said park. A completely deserted pocket playground. Completely deserted yet eerily clean and well-maintained. It looks like it might be next to a former school, but it's not entirely clear. Must investigate more.
And then we walked through the little parklet that frames a creek and runs under the highway, balancing on logs, crossing the little footbridge and charming the homeless folks hanging out by said footbridge. We also admired the orcas and octopi painted on the highway bridge we passed under.
We also ran into a parent and her two kids playing in their front yard. Simone tried to invite herself into their house. Instead we made "soup for the birds" on the front stoop and played a spot of hide and seek before continuing our long meander.
I realized at this point that a) I had left my cell phone at home and b)
doriankatz's house was on our route. So we stopped in to say hi and borrow a phone. More ridiculous cuteness ensued.
And then on our way out, April spotted this on the front porch:

Google informs me that this is a Western Tussock Moth. Isn't it neat?
Cookies on the way home were kind of anticlimactic after that.
