A different kind of dead thing

Something died in our basement recently. Something with a small, hard-to-find, but quite stinky body. The flies have found it, but we have not. I am grateful for the flies, though, because it proves that the stench of rot in our house isn't a collective hallucination. Also grateful for the landlord's wife for the same reason. Now if only we could resolve the issue in favor of stinklessness.

Time to call in a carnivorous bold cat.

(We had a squirrel die between the floors once, and that took a long time to find by stink alone.)

A carnivorous bold cat may have been the proximate cause of this situation :) I think maybe it was mortally wounded by the landlord's huntress and crawled away somewhere snug and secure to bleed to death.
