I'm reading Kate Zambreno's Heroines I can already tell this is going to be a very, very important book to me for awhile. Holy shit. More when I am finished, no doubt, but the short form is, Heroines is about the Modernist women -- Zelda Fitzgerald, Vivienne Eliot, Jane Bowles -- and how they turned into the marginal crazy-lady figures we know now. While finding herself inhabiting-slash-resisting a similar "faculty wife" role herself in Akron, Ohio, in the early 21st century.

I also dipped into "The Insomniac Reader: Stories of the Night" again for a while, but I am getting the impression that my tastes and the editor's are not very aligned. The stories seem really flabby. Well-written and deadly boring. Hints of really interesting things going on that are never explored. Stories that end right when they should begin. That sort of thing. I may give up and put it on the to-go pile soon.
