pantryslutMy house smells like peanut oil. Clean and sweet peanut oil, but nonetheless. (I fried some fish last night.)
We have three full, red poppies in the backyard.
The Monster In The Closet ventured out last night, once. All the way to the hall beside the living room, just far enough to hiss and glare at us ("I'm still here and I still hate you"), then retreat.
But this was not nearly as exciting as the day before, when Cosmo decided to venture out of the closet and was immediately ambushed by Fritzi, who chased her all over the bedroom. The chase only lasted about 5-10 seconds, but it was dramatic -- and fast. I don't think I've ever seen cats move quite that rapidly.
Fritzi has been staking out the closet intermittently since. I can't tell if she's protecting us, or just really intent on making friends. Of course, her idea of making cat friends is to pin the other cat down and lick them forcibly untl they squirm, then bite and pursue.
Meanwhile, I found out yesterday that it's nearly impossible to find a frame for A4 paper in this country. I think I'll have to go with an 8x12 and a 1/4 inch trim job.
Other observations:
Mustard, left to seed, will grow as tall as I am.
Bumblebees adore California poppies.
I spent all afternoon yesterday running errands; I've already been to the farmer's market today (Mission, not Ferry Plaza), and I think it's time to go again. But pleasant errands -- grocery shopping, frame shopping, garden browsing. I'm cooking pea and green garlic soup for dinner. Then later, I'll write -- some work stuff (book review's due), and some for myself. The pressure of multiple projects is building in my head. I must find some release soon. I wish I were a faster writer for this reason alone -- writing is a steam valve, and my little aperture is too, too small.
