Poor Choice Of Words

From the San Jose Mercury News:

"Dennehy, because of NCAA eligibility rules, had to sit out a year after transferring last year from New Mexico, where he was killed off the team for losing his temper."

I really don't think "killed off the team" was a wise choice of words for a murder victim, eh? Bad writer. bad editor.
