The first is the whole environmental estrogen mimic thing, as brought up by the bisphenol-A story I mentioned yesterday. Do a little digging into the environmental effects of synthetic estrogen mimics, and the world gets a little crazy. I could do a whole blog just on environmental estrogen mimic links (and, at one time, I did, as part of a fictional project that I'm really supposed to be retooling as a novel-thing right this second).
The second is something I read in a music review on PopMatters. Something about how most folks nowadays who didn't hear "oldies" (this in the context of a doo wop box set review) the first time around have a hard time appreciating them, b/c no contemporary music has its roots in doo wop and its related vocal styles. Well, see below for the earworm special of the day that has me wondering if this point is really valid, or if that particular slice of pop music history is more complicated, and if so, how. 'Cuz I love that shit. I also hate how it's packaged as pure nostalgia nowadays, "when music was more innocent," i.e. when "we" were more innocent, you know, that whole squeaky-clean 50's schtick, and I think btw that that's why I adore the song "Poison Ivy," which is so blatantly about VD. So much for innocence.
The third is two story ideas, smashing themselves together.
