Feb. 22nd, 2006 12:31 pmAlso yesterday, I thought I had totally creamed my ankle as I walked to the BART station. I fell off my shoe (sigh) and turned my ankle sideways, and while I could tell I hadn't torn anything, it really fucking hurt. And it continued to fucking hurt until I sat down. And a little while afterwards, too.
It was fine when I got off BART. It stayed fine all day, barring a couple twinges here and there. It's fine today.
When I was a youngster, I would have been aching for days. I used to twist my ankles all the time as a kid. My ankles were always sore and aching. I saw the doctor, and we talked shoes and sports medicine and support and orthopedic shoes. I wore orthopedic granny shoes for two years in high school, and I also walked miles and miles and miles in those shoes because I was in the Midwest and didn't have a car. I remember being told by my doctor that we should work to solve these problems now, before they spread to my knees and then to my hips. And sure enough, my knees used to ache and complain throughout college, and I saw the doctor a couple times for that, too, and they refused to diagnose it as arthritis because I was too young, and sometimes they told me to lose weight and sometimes I kicked them in the shin instead (OK, only metaphorically), and usually they gave me a big dose of ibuprofin and chucked me out again, sometimes with isometric exercises to srtengthen my joints.
I did those exercises. I'm stronger now.
I turned my ankle yesterday and it doesn't hurt a lick today.

Thinking about the future, lunch version
Feb. 22nd, 2006 01:44 pm1. Avocado toasts.
One avocado, one small lemon or lemon half, bread, black pepper.
I will be a snob. I will bring my own pepper grinder.
(Must purchase small pepper grinder.)
2. Peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich. Plus a container of cottage cheese.
Do I make the sandwich at home, or at work?
3. Tomato and cheddar sandwich.
Must be made at work, needs a knife and a small jar of mayo.
4. Cheddar and chutney sandwiches.
I like this best on the hard Safeway "torpedo" rolls, and these taste better when made at home and tightly wrapped in plastic.
Mango chutney is traditional, but variations are permitted.
5. Noodle salad
With peanut sauce and tofu and green onions and sesame seeds and maybe some tiny thin strips of cucumber and/or daikon and/or carrots.
