1. I have new gym shoes! They feel very nice on my feet, and even on my
arches -- very important. I think I will keep them even though they are
white. Function first.

2. I expected an inundation of last-minute submissions to Tough Girls
2
over the weekend, but I only got half a dozen. Hm. Hm. Hm. (I
probably will not start seriously sifting until after my performance this
weekend. Did I mention I'm performing this weekend? Details to follow.)

3. The official deadline for Tough Girls 2 has passed. Some of you
I have made unofficial arrangements with for an extension. Should there be
anyone reading this who also wants to make an unofficial arrangement of
this sort, write me ASAP.

4. It is now less that two weeks until my oral surgery, and slightly less
than a month until the application of braces proper.

5. Deadline tonight. Must send invoices, too.

6. I think the weather has turned such that it may now be time to make
pasta with mushrooms and cream. I have been waiting, patiently. Soon it
will be even colder and I will make macaroni and cheese.

7. I make a mean tuna casserole, too. Just sayin'.

8. Bought a lot of books this weekend.

9. Making plans for the rest of the year.

10. Today, I am wearing a lavender shirt, pinstripe pants with cuffs, and
my leather jacket. With all this and the shaved head too, I look
good, if I do say so myself.

1. The place at the farmer's market was out of Korean-style ribs. "We'll
have them next week," they promised. "You'd better," I whimpered to
myself, "I can't eat them after next week!" An exaggeration, but still. I
also think this means Hawaiian BBQ is in my immediate future.

2. RSI flare-up this morning. (Typing doesn't hurt; mousework does.)

Jon Sims Center and SF in Exile Present:

CAKE & DEBAUCHERY:
an evening of uncommon erotica

Tickets: at door $8-$20 sliding scale / no one turned away for lack of funds
Showtime: Saturday, October 7, 8:00 PM

Cake: [keyk] n. A tasty dessert often found at birthday celebrations.

Debauchery: [di-baw-chuh-ree] n. Excessive indulgence in sensual
pleasures. Best when combined with cake.

Join Katrina James as she celebrates her thirty-sixth birthday by hosting
an evening of out-of-the-ordinary erotica and burlesque. In a city where
sexual preferences and gender orientations span the colors of the rainbow,
what stories have slipped sideways out of view? What is unusual? Untold?
Difficult to choreograph without illustrated instructions?

Sherilyn Connelly, Cookie, Cindy Emch, Marlo Gayle, Dorian Katz, Steven
Schwartz, and Lori Selke will tell tales of consensual kidnapping, offer
erotic twists on Hans Christian Anderson, entice you with burlesque, maul
you with BEARlesque, and even get literally Cronenbergesque. And, of
course, what birthday celebration would be complete without cake and
spankings?

The show features queer and transgendered artists whose performances will
be recorded for the SFinX online archive at www.SFinX.org.

The Jon Sims Center is an all-ages, accessible art space located at 1519
Mission St. between 11th St. and South Van Ness in San Francisco (near
Civic Center BART).

Call (415) 554-0402 in advance for reservations or wheelchair access.

SFinX is dedicated to the documentation and dissemination of SF's queer
performing arts scene through digital media.

The Jon Sims Center's mission is to support artistic expressions of the
gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender experience.

I discovered a little Korean food place for lunch today. Actually, it's
Korean food (bbq and bibimbap), plus a coffeehouse, plus free wireless.
(The computer screensavers in the back room read "Got Kimchee?" I am not
making this up.)

Korean food, downtown. Really good Korean food.

Just to underline the serendipity and all, once I exited the place, a
woman crossing the street with me said, apropos of absolutely nothing,
"did you get the bibimbap? You know, you go to work and then you go to
that place and it's like a whole different world..."

And I am forced to admit the universe loves me, again.

I finished my book sitting at the table. My book is (was) Julie and
Julia,
about the woman who cooked her way through volume 1 of
Mastering the Art of French Cooking in a year, for fun.

Julie Powell says something at the end of the book that she admits is
sappy, but true. And I kinda needed to hear it. I kinda always need to
hear it, I think we all do sometimes. Anyway. I heard it. I'm listening.
