Things I am craving right now, food division:
1. Chilaquiles.
2. Eggs Florentine.
Why these breakfasty urges all of the sudden?
Also, avocadoes. They just sound like the perfect food right now.
What I really need to train myself to eat more of is jam. Preserves,
marmalades, whatever. Toast with butter and jam is lovely, but not
frequent enough to put a dent in my stash.
I bought several big chunks of meat this week at the farmer's market on
Saturday. I ate up some of them on Sunday, proving to myself that I am in
love with harissa and must come up with several zillion ways to consume it
as often as possible, please. Also, that it was worth investing in the jar
of fancy harissa. Yes, someday I might even make it myself. But in the
meantime, a big jar now lives in the fridge.
I also bought a bunch of herbs for the porch. Four kinds of mints (there
would have been five, but the lemon balms were in too sad a shape to
purchase), marjoram and parsley and thyme. I think I will probably break
down and buy some chives, too. For now, the herbs live on the front porch,
although I guess it would make more sense to have them in the back. We'll
see.
I realized a couple weeks ago, btw, that, since Morgan passed away, I am
now allowed to have house plants. Indoor plants. Morgan was notorious for
consuming every plant I ever brought into the house down to the dirt. And
as she was a climber, she would find sneaky ways of getting to plants I
thought were safely encsconced away. I don't even know where to start any
more. Except maybe with that small tendril I've saved for three years now
living in a bottle of water next to the kitchen sink.
