I dreamed last night that my family was moving to Berkeley. My mother had taken a job at the university. I asked her if she'd quit her old job. "Yes," she said, "I told them I was taking a sabbatical." That's not the same thing, I said. "I've never quit a job before," she said.

Them: "yes ma'am. er, sir. er, whatever you are. :)"

Me: "My *very* good friends call me "Ma'amSir" ;)"

Them: "or else "JamesSirBensonMum.""

Yeah, I could go for that.

OK, who's the wiseass who scheduled the Dorothy Allison reading at the same time as the SM in Science Fiction panel?

Oh, that would be me...

Btw, I finished reading Killing Johnny Fry by Walter Moseley last night. You will recall perhaps that this is his new "sexistential" novel.

It's really good.

And it's very subtly subversive in several delightful ways, for those of us who are sex-writing jaded and all. And subtly challenging for everyone.

a meme!

My freezer. Inside the door: a lot of nuts. Also: ice cream, White Castles leftover from the party, meat, chicken stock, shrimp shells.

My fridge. You can see the chicken that's been salted for roasting this evening. Also, a lot of jam. In the bins: meat and cheese, salad greens and zucchini, a lot of carrots and potatoes

A slightly blurry photo of the outside of the fridge, with calendar, silly magnets, subscription farm newsletter, and shopping list.
