Notes from the wedding:

1. G.'s right. My family *is* a matriarchy. I hadn't thought about it until he said so, but, dang. Not all of us womenfolk are bossy, but we are all strong personalities, large and in charge.

3. Also, we are all a little eccentric. You might say this is true of all families, but trust me on this one. Also, when I hang out with my family, I feel much more grounded. I can see where I have come from, and I can see aspects of myself reflected in other faces, and it's more of a comfort than I've realized before. I was very pleased to have a chance to hang out with *my people*, in other words.

3. My aunt said to me, "I hope you get a chance to know [the groom] better. he's a character." I replied, "he'd have to be, wouldn't he?"

4. I forgot how well Steven and my uncle get along. I must arrange more opportunities for them to hang out. And my uncle plus my father plus Steven? An unstoppable force.

5. My cousin, as reported by my aunt, on going to a bridal store: "they didn't listen to anything I had to say, and they kept trying to make me look like either a nine year old at her first communion, or a hooker."

6. Both the lads look absolutely lovely in suits. Steven's was new, from top to bottom, shirt and tie and shoes too. Handsome! And I am happy that G. wore a soccer tie.

7. I wore a tux jacket and a cleavage-y red top and a pretty necklace. I realized at some point on Friday that I had to wear pants because this was my *family* and they hadn't seen me in a dress since I was twelve and they would *know*, and really, they wanted to see me, not me-pretending. And then I saw my aunt in a pantsuit and remembered I haven't seen her in a dress in forever, too. A ha!

8. When I was six or seven, my aunt and uncle and this cousin (who was a baby) lived with me and my parents and my brother in the same house in Michigan. I think that arrangement only lasted a year or two, but it was memorable and formative. I'm just noting it here. Now my cousin is 30. Wow. She still gets carded, though.

Notes from the rest of the weekend:

9. Yay dim sum brunches filled with good food and good company! And Happy Birthday!

10. We didn't have cake at the wedding, so we had cake the next day.

11. Roller derby was totally worth driving down to San Jose (from Palo Alto) for. I had strange deja vu moments as I realized the hall we were in was the same place I didn't watch the Hugo awards ceremony from. If that makes sense.

12. Yes, the Cubs were eliminated from the post-season. Oh well. Next year...

13. I am growing to love the Berkeley Farmer's Market. (Although I will remain market promiscuous, I guarantee.) I bought, among other things, some lemon quark that later served as Sunday dinner, with grapes. Yes, that was the entirety of my Sunday evening meal: lemon quark with grapes. Yum.

14. I found a seekrit playground on a Sunday morning walk with G. It was open, but empty. Tempting in all sorts of ways.

15. We listened to the Indians/Yankees game with the bug invasion on the car radio just before derby; we also caught a bit of the visuals from the TV in the restaurant where we ate dinner. That was exciting in many different directions!

Also, I have figured out recently that I have a certain kink. It's not just that I want to be the bad guy -- and I do, I want to be the bad guy (sometimes).

I want to be the bad guy in public.

That is, I enjoy concocting scenes in which all the sympathy is with the bottom. The horrified sympathy. The inciting-an-urge-to-rescue sort of sympathy. This sort of scene, it needs onlookers, see.

I think this is why I like the bunny ears. And the hazing. And the CBT. And the girls who say "no! stop! ow!" And...

I think I am going to read "Cocksucker" on Saturday. ("Dead. Nude. Girls." is too long.)

Hm. Red peppers and feta...

...in a quiche?
...on a pizza?
...tossed with pasta?
...baked with rice?
...over chicken?
...next to lamb?
...in a sandwich?
...or a salad?

and what else shall we add to it? Arugula, pine nuts, olive oil, thyme, and/or...?

Hm...
