since it seems traditional: weekend notes
Oct. 15th, 2007 12:22 pmLitCrawl portion:
1. The audience at Good Vibrations' portion of LitCrawl on Saturday was apparently exactly the right audience for reading "Cocksucker" -- I got a huge positive response to it. And then, for the next two hours, as I sardined myself into other venues in the Mission, people would tap me on the shoulder or the wrist to say, hey, I heard you read just a little while ago, and I really loved that story. That was odd, and also seriously gratifying.
2. Litcrawl's huge audiences always excite me. Wow, so many people, listening to other people read!
3. I always forget, however, that socializing at these things is impossible. (Maybe b/c I remember last year, when I showed off my new exciting mouth hardware to friends on the street. We were on the street b/c the venues were *so* packed we couldn't even get inside.) I am sorry to everyone I missed saying hello to -- especially the out-of-towners. And also to those I could only say hello to, and not much more.
4. But I am glad to have seen you! Hi! Hi! Hi!
5. Also, my body is old, and after two plus hours of standing up, I am not at all prepared to go dancing. My feet hurt and my knees are getting puffy, and this is in my *good* shoes.
Rest of the weekend:
1. Brunch places should not have thumping disco bass at that volume.
2. Shiny new sky blue kitchens!
3. My two new favorite books: Alice Waters' Simple Food and Laura Kipnis' The Female Thing. Yes, this says a lot about me, thank you, move along.
4. I made another batch of ratatouille. I discovered that the book version of the recipe (from Chocolate and Zucchini) is a bit different from the one on the blog. I like the one on the blog better, though both of them are still wrong on the timing -- I leave it in the oven a lot longer than called for.
5. Didn't do as much housecleaning as I intended. I was tired. I am also anxious, a little, about the impending loss of every other weekend for the next eight weeks to a certain training course I'm signed up for. I am thinking about dinners and lunches and early morning transportation, and my sex life and my energy levels and all that fun stuff.
