I think in lists.
Jan. 18th, 2008 10:28 am1. OK, now I am having shooting pains in my chest. Musculoskeletal, so please don't panic, and I suspect it has everything to do with my shoulder. Only in the front, now! And sharp instead of achey! Variety is the spice of life. (
rednfiery, you're going to have fun when you see me next :P )
2. I attended a lovely reading last night with Carol Queen, Midori, and Laura Antoniou. Carol read my absolute favorite story of hers ever (yes, "Knife"), and Midori read a very nasty sexy story that was accidentally left out of Master Han's Daughter. Laura read the first chapter of The Inheritor, upcoming, and it was very lovely indeed.
3. Afterwards Midori and I discussed the fact that people never come up to us and go "wow, hot story, um, wanna play?" after we read. (Apparently, this happens to other erotic authors.) In her case, given the extreme scenarios she writes, the cause seems obvious. But me? I write such friendly fluffy bunny stories...OK, except for that one.
4. I was very glad to see Laura Antoniou again after several years. I like New York butches. I joked about being acclimated to hugging and other California social forms, and she asked, "do you order those caramel macchiato with a shot of mango sort of coffee drinks too?" I said no, I don't drink coffee, and she looked stricken. "I'm not against caffeine, though!" I quickly added, and the relief was evident. Laura, btw, bought the very first erotic story I ever sold, for Leatherwomen 3. (It was not the first story I published, but that's another story). Now, it looks like I am going to be her editor for a while.
5. I am not so Californian that I ate the cake.
(there's more. but I'm going to stop here for now.)
