Sep. 5th, 2008 02:30 pmThe thing that nags at me most about the rhetoric around McCain's campaign is the sense that he and his handlers really believe a certain assumption that underpins his candidacy -- that he's earned the Presidency simply by dint of "years of service to his country." Like this was a business, and he's waiting for the promotion. Or, like he's accumulated enough Plot Coupons and would like to turn them in now, please. But that it has nothing to do with any other factor (like, er, policies and issues) other than time served.
Maybe I should start comparing it to parole instead.
