* Did you know that Obama lost the white vote?*
* And that the much-quoted "70% of black Californians voted for Proposition 8" may be wrong -- the number may be much closer to 50%?
Other choice bits:
* "When whites went 60/40 for Bush Sr. over Dukakis in 1988, does that mean Whites were anti-Greek that year?"
* "To put it another way, the dismantling of some forms of institutionalized racism (separate drinking fountains for example) has cost the Democratic party a majority of the national White vote for the last 40+ years."
* "To the extent that the issue of gay marriage seemed to be pitted against the church, it was going to be a losing battle in my community." (Jasmyne Cannick)
and finally:
"Getting [Obama] elected was simple work compared to actually bringing about the social change many have portended his election represents."
(And an extra bonus: the photo topping the entry on Prop. 8 features my very favorite anti-8 sign ever.)
Lots of good reading to pursue. Go check it out.
* ETA: 'lost' seems to have the wrong implications in retrospect. I mean it only in the sense of 'didn't win a majority of.'
