Hi folks,

As some of you know, [livejournal.com profile] whittles set up a calendar for folks to bring us dinners so that we can spend more time managing twins without neglecting our own needs for, like, full meals and showers and things like that. We are still at a stage where we need help! The babies are even more demanding of our time, attention, and energy than they were when they were a few weeks ago, no joke. I hear it gets better soon, but in the meantime...

Basically, if you want to participate, pick a date, sign up, and when your time comes, come by our place around 5 pm to 6 pm and bring dinner. Home-cooked is lovely, but takeout is OK too. Alternatively, come over and cook in our fabulous kitchen -- we can even provide the raw materials sometimes. Especially if you like cooking squash.

You can stay and hang out (we are starving for adult company, seriously, and extra arms to hold the babies), or you can drop and run, according to your preference and schedule.

The calendar is here:

To sign up for a slot, send me e-mail (selk at io dot com).

Feel free to stop by non-calendar days, too, with food or without, days and nights and possibly even for midnight snacks! G. and I are here all day long; just call or e-mail ahead (ask if you want my phone #).

Transportation is the reason I haven't done this. I live far away and rely on public transpo. But if you happen to know anyone who could transport food and/or me with food to your house from SF, I'll sign up for a slot. I'd like to offer some support.

I drive past pubtrans (bart) every day on my way home from work, so if you can get to BART, I can get you here with no difficulty. ;)

Debbie and I are trying to think of ways we can help from Sydney, I only wish we were closer. In lieu of food, a suggestion - if you can, ask people to bring over relatively large quantities of simple dishes that can be frozen and re-heated. Lasagna, casseroles, soups, stews, enchiladas, things like that. I think it's hard organizing food multiple times a week - maybe you can suggest to people to bring over a weeks worth, or a few days worth? Easier for them, easier for you.

FYI: People are already being asked to bring enough for leftovers.

Bean and I have been dinner-bringers a few times. While we tend to routinely cook enough for leftovers, we have discovered that feeding 5 adults (2 of them male and 1 of them nursing) costs a LOT more than feeding 2 adults (both female). Bringing over a week's worth of food would be prohibitively expensive no matter how much good will we have.

My suggestion to you might be more helpful, though: order & pay for food to be delivered. Some ideas: perhaps order a Zacchary's pizza to be ready for pickup (fully or half-cooked; half-bakes are here: http://www.zacharys.com/half_baked.html ) Or perhaps order (and pay for) a meal from a local Andronico's deli for pickup. I forgot to do so here, though. It's a good point.

We don't have enough freezer space to accommodate large amounts of food at the moment, alas, even if people were willing.

Do you have space for large(r) freezer?

We haven't been able to figure out where one might go. Which is too bad b/c I really *want* a freezer.

I'm sorry that I don't live closer, because this is so much the sort of thing that I would do. If I spot a day when I'm likely to be up in East Bay, I'll get in touch. But, well, it's sometimes months before I do, even though I just live in San Jose.

Just in case, any general dietary restrictions/allergies/preferences? You're clearly carnivores. What else?

We're not carnivores, we're omnivores :) We will happily eat vegetarian/vegan fare, in other words.

[livejournal.com profile] imnotandrei doesn't tolerate spicy-hot foods well. That's about it for dietary restrictions, though!
