Vocabulary update
Aug. 28th, 2009 02:06 pmI am not keeping strict track of Simone and April's vocabulary. What's most interesting to me is how differently they use language.
Both of them babble nonstop (nonsense, pre-words) these days, which only increases their star quality. They 'talk' to everything - people, each other, cats, furniture...But I've noticed a difference with actual words. Simone uses her words to communicate directly to other people. April, on the other hand, uses them almost strictly descriptively. It can be harder to pick up on what she's saying as a result, and so the extent of her vocabulary snuck up on me.
They also have different words for the same thing: Simone says "cat," while April says "meow." Isn't that cool?
Simone also says "Hi baby." This totally freaked me out. That's a sentence! She is totally obsessed with babies. Dolls, pictures, all of it.
In other news, you haven't seen cuteness until you've seen April "signing" to the alphabet song. Unless it's the spontaneous dance they both fall into whenever they see the Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Cake ad on TV. (Warning: serious earworm. This ad is evil! b/c it is so, so effective.)
And finally, no surprise, they love to sit on the floor and 'read' their board books. Like mother, like daughters, I know, I know.
