Perverts Put Out - The Folsom Street Fair Edition!

Is there any better way to mark the eve of the notorious Folsom Street Fair than with another installment of our notorious spoken-word smut? No kink left untouched! No Fox News talking head left unscandalized! Performers will include Meliza Banales, Thomas Roche, Juba Kalamka, Jen Cross, Jan Steckel, Hew Wolff, horehound stillpoint, Dusty Horn, Ernesto Sarezale, and special guest-star emcees Lori Selke and Marlo Gayle.

PLEASE NOTE: This time around, the show is being held at the Center for Sex and Culture. The space is smaller (all the better to engage more, er, intimately with our filthy little tales), but thanks to our little brush with the national news media this summer we got a hefty dose of free publicity, so expect this show to sell out. Reservations are being accepted; contact me to be on the list.

The details:

Saturday, September 26, 2009
7:30 pm
The Center for Sex and Culture
1519 Mission St., San Francisco
$10-20 sliding scale, no-one turned away for lack of funds. All proceeds go to support the Center for Sex and Culture.

(Please feel free to forward and/or repost. Keep track of this and other shows at: http://www.simonsheppard.com/pervertsputout.html ).

I was working on a post for Invisible Disabilities Week that I later scrapped for not having much to say, really, overall.

In it, I noted that my RSI's are currently well-managed.

So of course - you could see this coming, couldn't you? - this week I am having a flare-up.

I am cleaning out my closet. Due to pregnancy and post-pregnancy, I have a lot of old bras that don't fit any more. They are too worn to sell, but too nice to throw away.

I'm thinking art project.

Any suggestions?

So, just a little while after my last post about bras, Curve magazine sends me the page proof for an upcoming article on mine. It's on the bottom half of page 15 of the October issue.

On the top half? A story about a nonprofit organization called Bosom Buddy Bra Recycling. They donate bras to domestic violence shelters and their clients for job-hunting purposes, they disassemble and recycle what they can't re-use, and they have a special need for larger bras.

I think that's settled, then.

Just because.

1. I write. I've written a couple short stories and a bunch of articles this year. I'm working on a few more short stories, another article or two, and a major revision. I don't talk about my process much, so you don't hear about this much. But yes, I am still writing. Slowly. As usual :)

2. I read. Recently I have read Futureland by Walter Mosley and Mean Little deaf Queer by Terry Galloway. And a lot of cookbooks. Right now I am reading Carnal Knowledge by John Baxter and getting intermittently irritated by its factual lapses.

3. I cook. Last night: zucchnini and red pepper calzones. I also do a lot of food prep for both babies and adults; for example, I spent a good chunk of this evening cutting up a watermelon. (I never used to understand the appeal of seedless watermelon until I had kids.) And a lot of meal planning in general, just to keep on top of the CSA box.

4. I play a lot of computer Scrabble. Gotta stay in practice and keep G. on his toes.

5. I do a little bit of yoga. I like it.

6. I visit the farmer's markets and try not to overbuy. This is my favorite time of the year, the transition from summer to fall. Greens are back! I'm excited.

7. I run small local errands. Trader Joe's, Arizmendi, tea. That sort of thing.

8. I apply to jobs, pitch articles, write book proposals, and so on.

9. I do chores: sweeping up after baby meals, cleaning the countertops, etc.

10. I organize and publicize events like PPO.
