It's been a little bit of a health rollercoaster here lately.

G. has the Hamthrax (plus a sinus infection) -- we got the call this evening. On the one hand, dangerous and contagious. On the other hand, at least it explains why he's been feeling so monumentally crappy. I made more soup tonight, of the Magic Egg and Lemon variety. Extra thanks to [livejournal.com profile] aquenigmatic, who came over and made a pork tenderloin last night so that I can have something to eat besides soup, soup, soup, which G. still craves but I am thoroughly sick of.

All plans are on hold for the next few days. And then I call the doctor about a course of Tamiflu for me and Steven. The ladies got their first H1N1 shot a few weeks ago; technically they need another one in a week, but the office said they should be fine. I'm going to call again on Monday just in case, though.

Coaltrain, on the other hand, has been issued a bill of clean health despite worrisome weight loss and other symptoms: increased thirst, occasional vomiting and diarrhea, and finally hair loss. Apparently he had a raging case of fleas, which contributed to the lattermost. He might also be in the very first stages of partial kidney failure, but it ain't showing upon the tests. The vet's verdict was clearly that he's an old cat, but otherwise fine. I wonder if some of my apparently misplaced concern is based on how vigorous he was when we got him, and the contrast is just starker than with most cats.

My health seems to be more or less fine. As usual. I am definitely ready for a vacation, though. One where I don't have to take care of anyone at all for a couple days, please.
