1. Vocabulary acquisition has suddenly accelerated. Passive vocabulary is even larger. I don't keep track of this stuff especially closely, but the counting words sure surprised me. So did 'apple' -- considering I feed them an orange every morning (since we're in season) and an apple only occasionally, I would have predicted it differently. But Simone dutifully attempted to say 'orange' when I questioned her about it this afternoon.
2. Motor skills are also on an accelerated track. There is much removing of clothing these days. April can climb onto the couch on her own. This evening they both climbed into their wire-and-fabric toy bins and used them as bucket seats -- at least until they fell over and bumped their heads. Repeatedly. Sorting toys are suddenly attractive, and so are pull toys.
3. Also, pulling off all the blankets and pillows from the couch and making a 'nest' on the floor is popular. Wrapping babies up in the blankets and letting them wrestle themselves free is also a treat.
4. I'm thinking art might be in the works soon. Also exploring drumming, and dancing. How to indulge drumming without driving adults crazy is a tricky task.
5. Also, stools are a priority, as they've taken to sitting on top of their music cube. Worse: there is only one music cube.
6. Today Simone was delighted when I dabbed some of my lavender hand cream on her hands and showed her how to rub her hands together to spread it around. She likes the smell, too. Meanwhile, I am wondering how early I can teach them to wash their own hands. (See also: stools.)
7. One twin shares much better than the other twin. Want to guess which is which?
8. Simone may be smaller (shorter, lighter), but her appetite is prodigious. They're both getting pickier, but that's OK. I just sweep up whatever they reject by throwing to the floor. I'm not so happy about the part where they throw food to the floor not to discard it, but to try and feed the cat...
9. April's, um, lower digestive troubles are still touch and go -- better, but not 100% so. I'm stocking up on prune juice. We're also giving apple cider a trial run.
10. The $5 I spent on a variety of hats at Goodwill a few months ago was the best investment I ever made.
