Elbow macaroni achieved at Safeway, house brand style. Whew!

Also, while we are on the subject of food, Jam Today by Tod Davies is a sweet little book. It's short and consists of little essays loosely based around the theme of "cooking with what you have." It manages to be charming without being cloying, which can be hard for this sort of thing, especially when it's set in the Pacific Northwest mountains with quirky neighbors and mountain passes and old wood-burning stoves and that sort of thing. I really enjoyed it.

Perverts Put Out! was one of our best shows ever, not kidding. There were a couple other events that day that I really, really wanted to go to, so I am glad that PPO delivered and made me briefly forget how sad I am that I cannot clone myself.

I was also filmed for a short documentary on queer families by a friend of ours, in our living room. She brought her baby and her charming partner and we all sat on the floor and talked for an hour while the children played over and around us. So kind of like a play date, only for posterity. I was very impressed at how well the ladies did with our guest, who is 6-7 months younger than they are. They are getting very good at sharing, too, even with each other. They also like to trade food at meal times.

Other things that have happened lately: We visited Totland last week, a little kid park in North Berkeley. Much fun, even if (despite what I just said about sharing) April tried to walk off with someone's steel water bottle, and then her ball, and then had a meltdown when I stopped her. Metal water bottles are the Best Toy In The World right now, and woe be to they who get between April and one.

And I think they are teething or having a growth spurt, or both. They've been waking up in the middle of the night, Simone especially frequently. We're all a little sleep-deprived again over here, with all that entails.
