1. Guy is feeling unwell, and due to a confluence of circumstances with the chicken CSA, I was given a free bonus chicken with no legs (the legs get turned into confit). So it seemed the perfect moment last night to try my hand at chicken and dumplings. I used Mark Bittman's suggestion of just dropping spoonfuls of biscuit dough into the pot, and it worked beautifully. I am going to do this again--and again and again and again...

2. Does anyone know anywhere *other* than IKEA where I might find some cheap-but-sturdy bookcases?

3. Slightly apropos of #1: I think I may be taking a chicken butchery class soon.
