Also, Simone really likes cheese (of some mild white semisoft variety that I couldn't identify). She practically cleared the party plate this afternoon.

P.S. last night at the Y, someone said, "Your name is April? But you're too young for that name. Or else too old." I have no idea what this person meant by this statement, and I was too busy chasing after my daughter to ask, so I post here on LJ to ask semi-rhetorically: WTF?

Dear white queer writers,

I find this recent trend of claiming Octavia Butler as a queer writer icon rather problematic, probably conflationary of gender presentation and sexual orientation, and a bit tokenizing to boot (and I'm not just referring to the cheesy "from another planet" bit). Unless I'm missing something?

P.S. do all your honored queer writers have to be dead? I'd like it to be possible to be a cocktail icon before you're in the coffin. Just sayin'.
