1. Parenting the twins is beginning to convince me that most libertarians are really just arrested two-year-olds.

2. Watching the first half of the second season opener of Venture Bros. is the perfect cure for the aftereffects of the first half of The Lovely Bones (movie version).

3. Dishing over cupcakes makes everything better. Well, OK, not everything, but major headway was made.

Just to add to our household follies, though, the dishwasher has been acting up for weeks and weeks now. We've gone through two repairs that didn't take, so the landlord -- who I should note here is generally a fine and upstanding sort as landlords go -- finally got around to replacing it today.

Only problem is, he tried to install it himself.

So we spent an entire day with tools and spare parts all over our kitchen floor, trying to feed twins and ourselves and such -- only to have it drain into the basement when we ran a test cycle. We're spending the rest of the evening hand-washing a whole lot of dishes, and the landlord will try again on Wednesday.

Found Eggplant Poem Take Two

I think I might like the short version better:

Let's get one thing straight:
most eggplants are not bitter
(even though they have every right to be
after everything that has been said about them.)
At least they are no more bitter than
a green bell pepper or the tannic skin of a fresh walnut.
They have a whisper of bitterness that
adds to the taste rather than ruining it. In fact,
it's that subtle edge that makes eggplant
such a great companion.
