Some Quick Updates
May. 3rd, 2011 12:52 amSo, OK, I had a nice talk with the library branch manager on Friday about Storytime and my concerns and her concerns and some of the mitigating/exacerbating factors (such as tight local budgets and sudden leaves of absence) and it turned out we were both on the same page and I feel much better now.
On Saturday the girls got their faces painted; Simone was a "spiderweb" (black web on red face a la Spider(wo)man) and April was a tiger. I admit to having my cockles warmed by their choices. I may have to develop my own face-painting skills, though, as this is kind of an expensive habit to indulge them in otherwise.
I am enjoying the weather. I got to wear sandals on Friday! I hate shoes and have been waiting impatiently for sandal weather to finally commence. The photographer Phyllis Christopher once told me she could divine people's personalities from their choice of footwear while I was over picking out photos from her portfolio for work. "Hm, open-toed shoes," she said, eyeing my sandals. "You're not afraid to be vulnerable." Best pop psychology moment ever.
We also broke out the grill on Sunday. Spring grills are all about meat (and cheese, yay haloumi!) b/c about the only grill-friendly vegetable in season is asparagus and you all know how I feel about asparagus. Grilled asparagus I occasionally make an exception for, but I'd already given it all away.
It turns out that remembering hateful words about one's writing in the mouth of another is a great way to short-circuit that artistic self-doubt I was alluding to earlier. Suddenly one is filled with motivation to (continue to) prove certain people as very wrong as possible. *And* to have fun while doing so. Living well etc.
