I'm getting grumpy.

NPR is reporting that, at least in England, there's rising criticism of the war on Iraq. Particularly, people (on both sides of the issue) are beginning to suspect that the intelligence provided to justify the war might have been distorted or even fabricated. There are calls for independent investiagtions of these allegations.

All well and good. But I am still grumpy because:

a) why didn't we do this sort of investigation before the war, when it would have been a bit more relevant?

and

b) Why is this news now? We already knew that one of the key documents -- the one alleging that Iraq had a secret nuclear weapons program -- was bogus. We knew that another was basically plagiarized. So now it's a scandal?

In other words, my problem is this: there is no new data here. So why the sudden flurry of activity?

Because now it's safe?

Or is that too cynical of me?
