In addition to the many admiring comments from friends, my new haircut (which is really just my standard haircut, honest, I just get it quarterly instead of every six weeks) has resulted in being called "sir" already several times. I guess the ear piercings merely make me look faggy when my hair's this short.

People soliciting for money are very apologetic when they mistake your gender. Even high school kids peddling candy bars.

Oh yeah, while I'm here, I have a confession to make: hanging out with bearsir and nadyalec after the former's San Francisco show, I noticed that my voice had dropped significantly in pitch by the time I was ready to head home. It was not an intentional "butching up" moment, and it was actually hard to raise my pitch back up to its more usual (mid) range after that.

Remember, long ago, when I posted that poll about whether y'all thought my voice was high or low? Well, here we go again, I guess.

Jason bought a new fedora recently and then left it at my house- I wore it the other night on my way to Berkeley on BART, and I was very confused to find myself getting double-takes from men. I decided it was most likely the gender-confusion issue. I was wearing jeans and manly shoes, and my leather coat (which isn't particularly butch, though). Or maybe they just coveted my hat.
I had fun chewing on a toothpick the whole time, keeping the brim of the hat down as I read and, I admit, swaggering EVER so slightly when I got off the train.
I feel totally at home in a fedora. I used to wear men's hats all the time when I was about 20 and my hair was a quarter-inch long. and I got "sir" every now and then, too. But that was before my body took its revenge and grew me some breasts. :)
