I am getting a little tired of my downtown lunch options. I think it's time to start taking my lunch more often.

What are your favorite take-to-work lunch components?

Well, today I was quite happy with smoked salmon and pasta, and an olive oil - lemon juice sauce. *g* Many thanks to those as made it possible!

I admit, mostly I have for lunch whatever I had for dinner the night before; but I'm beginning to try to think it through a little better, for the sakes of interest, variety, energy, and general good health.

I hate leftovers the day after. I just won't eat them. I'll sit at my desk and starve instead. This is a big character flaw, I know.

Hmm. Leftovers are exactly what I try to take for lunch. How do you feel about other people's leftovers? If those are OK, you could do a swap.

Sometimes I can wait two days and then I'm interested in the leftovers again.

Dolmades. Fresh small quiches from the patisserie that's on the slightly longer walk between home and the Metro. Brownies.

toasted bread sandwiches (turkey with lettuce and cranberry is my fave)
crunchy snack - veggie, chippy or nutty
fruit
and something decadent. chocolate, yogurt, hard candy etc.

basically I like a few components so that i can either eat at once OR snack all day

nut-butter-and-jam sandwiches; if peanuts get boring, try almond or cashew butter.

cheese, either the individually-packed string cheese or whatever's on sale and decent quality.

grilled vegetables (squashes, peppers, etc)

rice, beans, and cheese in a bowl, perhaps with grilled veggies.

last night's leftovers (because we make extra for lunches).

fresh fruits.

homemade bread for making toast at school/work, paired with butter/jam.

I like to bring home made salads, grapes, and rice krispies treats to work.

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] srm on the nut-butter-and-jam front, along with a carrot and a banana. (The home-made bread that is frequent in my house helps with this.) I'll also happily take a piece of chicken, or a chicken sandwich (does it count as leftovers if you refarkle it into a sandwich or a salad?).

I have something in common with [livejournal.com profile] gramina as well, since yesterday's lunch was a salmon sandwich on [livejournal.com profile] wordweaverlynn's home-made (but frozen and defrosted) bread, with lettuce and a little garlic.

Oh, I also like smooshed avocado sandwiches with garlic a lot.

i work spitting distance from rainbow grocery, so i almost never bring lunch, but i often make some here. we have a big enough fridge at heck that i can store some ingredients all the time.

recent favorites:

primavera brand tamales (several varieties), nuked with
chopped zucchini
chopped red bell pepper
topped with straus whole milk yogurt and sometimes
diced avocado

sandwiches made from marbled rye with
rainbow house label muenster or jack melted on over
spicy dijon mustard
and in between those i put
sliced roma tomatoes
fresh basil leaves
black pepper tofurky slices and usually also
avocado
and baby carrots on the side

Can of Chunky's soup. Preferably eaten cold. Sorry, I know this is probably unpopular here, but it's true. Susie despairs.
