A picnic blanket!

What gives a blanket the picnic nature? All the picnics I've had involved blankets from someone's (once and/or future) bed, if there was a blanket involved at all. Sometimes we've been known to make do with a towel. Or even a bandana.

This is a fine question, thank you. As it happens, most of my own blankets are too fuzzy (and thus likely to pick up detritus) to use as a picnic blanket. Towels likewise. Bandanas, I have used, but I'd like something bigger at this point in my life. An old cloth tablecloth might do, come to think of it.
