Madison Miscellany
Jun. 1st, 2005 01:27 pmMonday I was visited by the WisCon Migraine. It was late; I usually get it on Friday afternoon. (This is also why I appreciate the lack of formal programming on that day.)
If I must get a migraine, lying in a cool, spacious hotel room in Madison isn't such a bad place to get it. The very effective blackout curtains help a lot. No kitties to sit on my feet and send healing purrs, though.

I have graduated to Hook's seven-year cheddar. The ten is still too dry for my tastes. Steven forgot his pocket knife, so I was forced to tear both bread and cheese with teeth and fingers. I am a savage.
The morels at the farmer's market were way, way too tempting. I mean, they were huge and abundant and pale, and everybody seemed to have some to sell. Not fair. It's OK when there are only a few baskets left for intrepid shoppers to snatch up. It's another thing when there's a surplus. (I blame the rain.)
I may have solved the kitchen problem in the future, however. And I also have a new nefarious idea for the Salad Party.
All the pastries, especially the pies, made me think of G.
I think next year I will be eligible to buy jam again.

I didn't expect to spend nearly as much time hanging out with
annafdd as I did, and it was a welcome surprise.
I am totally spoiled by Bay Area food service, though. You didn't expect me to ask what *kinds* of cheese are on the cheese plate? In Wisconsin? Um? And the answer "half are from Wisconsin and half are from Ireland" just doesn't cut it.
*
You shouldn't be surprised that this has degenerated into food notes.
*
Speaking of which: Sprecher root beer!
*
Something non-food-related: jewelry.
I helped
elisem set up on Friday, because it gave me an excuse to hang out and I like helping friends. I was hanging pretty strands of beads on hooks, when I came across a particular necklace that didn't want to go on display, it wanted to go around my neck. I just wouldn't let it go after I saw it. So now it's mine. It's called "Echo Gratitude," which I can now confess I have no idea what it means (Steven has a notion, though), it's full of reds and oranges and yellows, it's filled with all sorts of interesting beads, and maybe I should post a picture soon.
I also got a frog pendant, and a pair of earrings at the haiku earring party. Steven is going to let me wear the pair he earned, too.
My last purchase was a pair of earrings to match my soon-to-be-tattoo. You'll see.
In an entirely unrelated note, I need to find someone to fix a clasp on another necklace I own.
*
For the first time since we began attending, we got nothing at all from the auction. It was fun anyway.
*
Speaking of which: fans and prime number bidding. It is an inevitable collision.
*
I must be doing a good job on revising my posture, for I spent a good portion of Thursday bumping my head against the overhead compartments of various planes and buses. Fortunately, by the end of the extended weekend, I had adjusted.
*
I am saving panel reports and my fancy dinner for later. So now you have something to look forward to.
