The free eclair I picked up from the break room had no filling, just an empty pocket.

perhaps the god merely confused you for me. i like everything about an eclair except the custard; never mind that the eclair is supposed to be all about the custard.

hopefully, god efficiency will improve as the day goes on. in my meantime, sympathies.

Me too!

Well, you two can have all the eclair shells in the world (especially that nasty choclate frosting, ew) if I can have the custard. I'll pass on the ones with whipped cream.

I prefer the maple frosted ones. :)

So if you don't like chocolate or maple frosting on your eclairs, what kind DO you like?

I don't like frosting on my eclairs at all. (I'm not a big fan of most frosting in general.) I figure it's no weirder than not liking the custard :)

Not liking the custard is definitely weirder. I take pride in my weirdness. :)

The frostign is all too rich and too sweet. Give me a cream puff with custard, and I'm happy.

I like the whipped cream (or as they call it "angel cream") ones best.

I'd take that as a good sign. you know, you're special and all!

That is the most heartbreaking story I have heard all morning.

Apparently I have more to say. That just kills me. Go back and get another one!

I overcame fat girl shame and did -- only to find *that* one was empty, too. I cannot make this up!

What's the point of Pate a Choux without putting something inside? Agh! Cretins! I feel for you, L. It's not fair.

May I just say...

...that it says something about the place of food in our lives that in a little less than two hours, a one-sentence post of yours generated 13 (well, now 14) comments, when much longer, more involved, and more thoughtful ones generate much less? ;)

That said, it's still a tragedy, but I don't think it's God. It might be the International Bakers Conspiracy, who think you've been getting too cozy with the Cheesemonger Cabal and want to remind you of how important you are before you show up at the Grand Secret Foodie Forum and vote a straight Cheesemonger ticket.

These unnatural abominations must end, before all eclairs are corrupted.

Sorry mom, I had to do it.

I'll fill your eclair.

But now I think they were all empty, it was free defective eclairs. so at least it wasn't just yours.

But I am having a morning like that too.

I feel this calls for a trip to tartine - eclairs with great filling(ok maybe a little liquidy), fancy good chocolate on top.

Somewhere there is a handful of extremely bloated mosquitos, one of whom is saying, "I told you there wasn't blood in those".

This is one of the saddest things I have heard all day. I hope you make up for it by getting something delicious and custardy very soon.
