movie night
Jun. 13th, 2005 10:14 amFriday night I saw Kung Fu Hustle. This is easily the movie I most enjoyed watching so far this year, in any context. I fell in love not ten minutes in, during the gangster axe dance, and the infatuation continued right up to the point near the end where Stephen Chow took off his shirt, at which point my love took a turn to the carnal.
I'm glad to see Chow apparently enjoyed certain aspects of Gangs of New York as much as I did (despite myself), and I am glad he refrained from having someone tap his glass eyeball or making some similarly obvious nod. See, when you digest your pop culture references just a little bit more, the results are so much better. (Not that GoNY was anywhere near the only movie that went into the stewpot!)
So, yeah, that was the perfect spur-of-the-moment Friday event for me, especially since it cost five bucks and I got to sit on a sofa. Must work on convincing Steven of the virtues of parmesan cheese on popcorn, though, so that I am not exiled to half the bowl.

Were you at the Parkway? I didn't know they had cheese for their popcorn! I heart weird things on popcorn. I regularly cover mine with garlic. Then Bean gets all mad because the garlic smells SO good but she really doesn't like popcorn but she has to eat some anyway. I added asiago the last time. Mmmmm.
I used to feel kinda guilty for making popcorn when she didn't like it, but then I learned to laugh evilly (mwahahaha) instead. More for me; and if the garlic does its job, she'll end up liking popcorn against her will.
Have you seen Bride & Prejudice? It's got some great "the whole street breaks into dance" scenes.
