Thems was amateur strippers. (OK, one was retired.) Also, I need a sense of an entire wardrobe, not just one or two outfits. Eventually I can quiz friends and acquaintances, but I also want to make headway on the scene.

I presume your WIP is contemporary Western, but the image of what someone might learn about a new culture's perceptions of eroticism by for some reason or another ending up hiding in an exotic dancer from that culture's wardrobe is now really tempting me. [ Tangential world-building fascinates me. ] If I could find a tone for it other than noir or farce, that is. I can't do Dashiel Hammett and I have no desire to do Woody Allen.

Also, there is a most peculiar shop in Chinatown here which seems to sell, among other things, showgirl-ish exotic underwear that I can only really connect to the bit at the beginning of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom; a similar sort of retro-naughty to old-style burlesque that's not really in the mainstream of erotic imagery for most people any more.
