Presents in the mail

I no longer review music for print publication, but I haven't yet fallen off every promoter's mailing list. So last night in the mail, I got the newest album from Pink Nasty (aka Sara Beck).
I fucking adored Pink Nasty's debut, Mule School. It is one of my favorite albums. I was sad that I didn't get to review it for someone, somewhere, though I sure tried to get it into the Girlfriends sidebar before I left them. "I'd Rather Be Hot" is the soundtrack to the "I'm not pretty" posts a few days ago, fwiw. I love "Early Grave," too. And "Be My Baby" totally rehabilitates the overplayed Ronettes original (not that I don't appreciate the Ronettes, either).
Pink Nasty sings gentle, playful, humorous countrified song things, with a little melancholia stirred in to keep it real and all. This decription does her no justice. She's not flashy, but she's catchy. And once she's got you, she sticks with you.
If you like alt country stuff at all -- say, if you've ever bought anything from Bloodshot Records -- you'll like Mule School.
I hope this new album is half as good.
The catch: Pink Nasty is self-published and self-distributed. But really, she's worth seeking out.
