Before work today, I attempted to explain to [livejournal.com profile] imnotandrei the concept of "girly push-ups"* (i.e. pushing up from the knee rather than from the feets).

He got on the floor so he could feel for himself the difference, and that's when I noticed.

[livejournal.com profile] imnotandrei has a bubble butt that would make any twink proud.

Yes, I am a little embarrassed that I have known this man for almost 20 years and hadn't noticed this until trying to correct his push-up forms. I always knew it was, er, well-formed, but I didn't know that it, um, broke the surface of the water like a shark's fin. Only rounder.

* must be said dripping with disapproving sacrasm at the gender politics of working out, of course.

You have got yourself some mighty fine men there, yep, that's for certain.

Well, having done both, there are times when I can only do girly pushups and doing those is better than doing nothing...

But it's quite delightful to think about you noticing his butt all of a sudden. ;-)

I actually used the phrase in the context of explaining that that's what I was up to doing at reasonable reps, not the regular kind but the "girly" kind. And then I had to explain what I meant :)

Hey - they work. Glad you aren't "too macho" to do them.

I grew up calling them "half pushups" or "knee pushups". Truly. That's what our PE teachers called them.

But I think the exercise by any name is out of favor. Have you heard of "the plank"?

I have only vaguely heard of the plank.

Also, I am kinda into out-of-favor exercises (depending on why they're out of favor). Push-ups are good for me because they work many things instead of one thing -- bad for bodybuilding, good for general health.

Well, from what I understand (hollow laugh here), the plank is good for the things that push-ups are good for, and doesn't have whatever they're bad for associated with it.

How's that for some precision, eh?

I blame the baggy pants.

And when I see them out of pants, he's not usually doing push-ups :)

blaming baggy pants?! poor guy. Well, now that you know he has a bubble butt, you can always give it an affectionate whack. heh.

trust me, not knowing that he had a classic bubble butt has not prevented me from groping, smacking, and otherwise admiring his well-put-togetheredness. ;)
